P. Andrew Evans

Professor and Alfred R. Bader Chair of Organic Chemistry

Dr. P. Andrew Evans is a distinguished figure in the field of Organic and Organometallic Chemistry, currently holding the prestigious Alfred R. Bader Chair of Organic Chemistry and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair at Queen’s University. With a remarkable academic journey spanning across top-tier institutions globally, Dr. Evans has earned numerous accolades and made significant contributions to his field.

He embarked on his academic journey by obtaining a B.Sc. with honors in Applied Chemistry from Newcastle Polytechnic in 1987. Following this, he pursued his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge under the guidance of Andrew B. Holmes, FRS, and completed his postdoctoral studies as a NATO Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin under Philip D. Magnus, FRS.

In 1993, Dr. Evans launched his independent career at the University of Delaware, where he swiftly ascended to the rank of Professor before joining Indiana University in 2001. His academic journey continued to flourish as he assumed the Heath Harrison Chair of Organic Chemistry at the University of Liverpool in 2006, ultimately culminating in his current position at Queen’s University since July 2012.

Dr. Evans’ exceptional contributions to the field have been widely recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including the 2023 R. U. Lemieux Award, 2022 Paul G. Gassman Distinguished Service Award, Harry and Carol Mosher Award, Changjiang Scholar Award, ACS Cope Scholar Award, RSC Pedler Award, Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award, Pfizer Award for Creativity in Organic Chemistry, and many others. His leadership roles within the scientific community are equally impressive, having served on various committees and as an editor for esteemed scientific journals.

Moreover, Dr. Evans is a prolific author, having published nearly 150 papers, articles, reviews, book chapters, and monographs, and has delivered over 500 plenary and invited lectures worldwide. His dedication to advancing the field of Organic Chemistry extends beyond academia, as he also serves as the President and Senior Consulting of Apieka Consulting, providing expertise and guidance to industry stakeholders.
